HistoryIn 1993, IHAS began as a series of 6-week courses entitled “Self-Healing through the Human Energy Field” offered by founder and president, Dorothy Martin-Neville. Her students, eager to delve deeper into energy healing, asked her to expand the series. A two-year program was established with a specific curriculum of personal process work and hands-on healing methods. As the student population steadily grew, so too, did the school with the addition of an expanded curriculum and a third year. In May, 2002, at the request of a number of area hospitals and clinics, IHAS developed an internship program which allowed third year students to provide in-patient and out-patient care. This new dimension required an enhanced application of personal and professional development. In August, 2003, IHAS was established as a four year school of healing arts, approved by the Connecticut Commissioner of Higher Education. The Institute offers a ground-breaking program in the field of health and medicine, providing partnership in patient care at nine Connecticut hospitals and 40 clinics, including a nursing home in Rhode Island. Some of the departments currently receiving our services are Oncology, Family Medicine, Alzheimer units, and Women’s Health, as well as Medical and Surgical Inpatient Units. IHAS was recently awarded a research grant by The National Institute of Health, to explore the effectiveness of energy healing on fibromyalgia patients using The W.I.S.E. Method™, developed by Dorothy. Graduate students and teachers of this program will now be hired to support this study. For several years, the school was housed at the University of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut but class size and the demands of the curriculum required a larger and more functional space. With its formal affiliation within the medical community, IHAS classes were moved to the St. Francis Hospital Campus at The Center for Health and Enhancement in Hartford, Connecticut. We resided there for two years, until we once again out grew our available space. As of September 2004, classes are held at Saint Thomas Seminary and Conference Center in Bloomfield, Connecticut. As IHAS continues to expand its services to hospitals and its increasing student body, additional classes, seminars and health care will be added as needed or requested. We continue to create a history for our future. |
