Graduate Stories and Experiences

My spiritual journey and healing capabilities were enhanced and expounded upon during my 4 years of study at the Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences under the love, guidance and discipline of the school's founder, Dorothy Martin-Neville. Some of my graduation gifts that I received are wholeness, happiness, peace, tranquility and a greater sense of who I truly am. During my schooling I gave birth to my private healing practice STAR ESSENCE, and I also provide my healing services to organizations throughout the local communities. I also have more quality and more of me in my life, and this is the most beautiful gift that I graduated with and that I can now share.

Before becoming a student at IHAS, I felt my life was as I had wanted. I loved my profession helping others become healthier through fitness and proper nutrition, and was happy with my personal life. I thought I understood people, and especially myself. I went to IHAS to learn Energy Medicine---the technique of energy healing. I thought it would be another tool I could use to help others. I had no idea the depth of where this journey would take me. I did learn the techniques of Energy Medicine. But far more important, I began to understand who I really am and learned to connect to other beings at a much deeper level. What I previously thought were close relationships with others was really surface compared to what I now consider that to be. IHAS can change a person’s life. Because how you see yourself and how you see others is how you view the world.

I graduated from IHAS in 2001. The school has enhanced my life in several ways.

The increase in my healing skills, techniques and perceptions has been a great benefit to my practice as a massage therapist and healer. I am better able to help my clients heal. I am more comfortable and confident doing healing work. I also enjoy teaching energy healing and leading an energy healing group.

The larger impact of the school, however, has been on my personal and spiritual life, as well as my relationships. On a spiritual level, I no longer doubt that there is spirit and guidance. I understand how to make sense of things better than I used to and can often look at a larger picture. The concept of past lives has been particularly helpful.

Emotionally, I am a changed person. School was rarely easy but I experienced tremendous growth and empowerment. At the beginning I was most interested in doing energy healing and impatient with learning about defense structures and patterns. However, it is that knowledge that has benefited me the most. Now I am often aware when I am acting out of defense, and why. I find it much easier to release old negative patterns and behaviors and act in a healthier way. I am more aware of when other people’s behavior is caused by their patterns and how to respond better.

I have a deeper understanding of family, friends, coworkers and basically everyone else. My husband and I use this knowledge we acquired at IHAS in raising our own children with love and awareness. There are always challenges to face and new growth opportunities, but the skills and awareness gained at IHAS have been a wonderful help on my journey. I also appreciate knowing that Dottie is only a phone call or email away as a priceless resource for insight and support.

How IHAS has impacted my life.
A true story….

My experience at IHAS has had a lasting effect on my life.

I learned about human beings. How we behave, how we interact, how we deal with each other. I learned how I deal with all this information and how I fit into the picture. I learned how fearful I was and why and how to deal with that. I learned how I present myself to the world and how the world presents itself to me. I learned how I interpret this information and what to do about it, no good or bad. I learned about me. Then I learned about you and me.

The tools I received at IHAS have shaped how I live in the world. I am able to see people as they are and understand the why's and how's and not judge them. I learned to clean up my stuff and in doing so I am far better equipped to help others, which helps the world as a whole. I learned to start with myself and work outward.

The other tools I received at IHAS are the technical applications of healing which I use all the time and as a result have brought a space for miracles into the world. They are profound and powerful.

All this has brought me much closer to a place of non-judgment of self and others and therefore I have become a far better human than I could ever have imagined being.

But one of the most profound things I experienced at IHAS was the compassion that Dottie is. I have never been so moved as when Dottie was in "action" showing us how it works. She has a heart that reaches the corners of the universe and I feel very, very blessed to have had her as a mentor in my life. She is a shining star in my life and one to reach for.

My experiences with IHAS has transformed my relationship with myself and with others. The personal growth has been so profound that I am a very different person than I was prior to the program. Learning to be authentic and to embrace my unique gifts and talents has helped me recognize and embrace my soul's longing, my life's purpose. I have learned that I am loved, and worthy of love, because of who I am, not because of what I do. This has enabled me to be fully present with myself, my family, and my counseling and energy healing clients. Through all of this I have learned that loving myself and following my soul's longing is greatest gift I can give to myself and to others.
