YALE EVENT SHOWS THE
OLD WAYS ARE NEW AGAIN
Bloomfield, CT, December 19, 2007 - According to
a Yale Cancer Center conference held in the Anlyan
Center at Yale University on December 11, 2007, the old
ways are the new ways. The conference, entitled
"Demanding Excellence in Pain and Symptom Management
-Challenges for 2008 and Beyond," discussed expanding
options for pain management and palliative care. The
varied mainstream medical approaches were discussed
along with the additions of a number of techniques known
as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (or CAM).
Panelists represented diverse fields such as art
therapy, music therapy, social work and
psychotherapeutic interventions, energy medicine and
chaplaincy support.
One of the panelists, Dorothy Martin-Neville, Ph.D.,
founder of the Bloomfield, CT-based Institute of Healing
Arts and Sciences, said, "It is an exciting advancement
that methods which have been around for hundreds of
years are again recognized. The many options available
to support full health and healing in patient care are
new to the mainstream and education and exposure are
needed. This CAM program represents an important part of
that education locally for those who could so readily
recommend such services."
The Institute for Healing Arts and Sciences will be
furthering the aim of public education of Complementary
Alternative Medicine on February 23 and 24, 2008 by
hosting a Two- Day 'Overview of Energy Medicine'
workshop in Worcester, MA. Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah
Winfrey's Resident Medical Expert, says "energy medicine
is the new frontier of medicine."

OPRAH'S DR. OZ SAYS ENERGY
MEDICINE IS THE NEXT FRONTIER IN MEDICINE
BLOOMFIELD, CT 12/7/07.
You
may not have caught it, but Oprah Winfrey’s show on
Monday, December 3rd * featured Energy
Medicine. Oprah’s repeat medical expert, Dr. Mehmet Oz,
stated that the field of energy medicine was the next
frontier in medicine. Clearly, Dr. Oz is not the only
person who thinks so; Donna Karan, through her forum,
Urban Zen (www.urbanzen.org),
is addressing a wide range of related issues and
approaches to this work with the help of Dr. Deepak
Chopra, Michael J. Fox,
Dr. Christiane Northrup, and
Dr. Dean Ornish, among others.
The
significance of Energy Medicine, which the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) refers to as Frontier
Medicine, has increased dramatically as a result of the
great levels of recognition and requests in patient care
due to its ability to support health and healing.
Consequently, the NIH awarded two multi-million dollar
Frontier Medicine Grants nationally, awarding one to the
University of Connecticut Health Center in
Farmington,
CT.
Dorothy Martin-Neville, Ph.D., founder and CEO of The
Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences, Inc., (IHAS), in
Bloomfield,
CT,
was co-chair of the Advisory Board overseeing the local
Frontier Medicine Grant. IHAS is a national leader in
the field of energy medicine. It has two and four year
programs in energy medicine providing comprehensive
training for personal use or professional development
including academic and hands-on approaches to the work.
These programs, in which the 3rd and 4th
year students complete medical internships in one of the
over 30 hospitals across the country with which IHAS is
affiliated. The Institute is approved by the
Connecticut Commissioner of Higher Education and is the
only state approved Energy Medicine training facility in
New
England with its extensive credentials.
The
Institute announced today the very encouraging results
of an NIH-funded study on the method of Energy Medicine
developed by Dr. Martin-Neville and its impact on
Fibromyalgia (a condition resulting in chronic pain for
sufferers.) The psycho/spiritual correlates of physical
disorders were explored in this research providing a
deeper understanding of the disorder and providing
complimentary options for treatment. This undoubtedly is
an area that your audience will want to know more about.
There is a great deal of confusion on this topic. We
would be happy to help you sort through the issues. To

Dr.
Martin-Neville, has just been named to the ethics
committee of ACEP, the Association for Comprehensive
Energy Psychology, an international nonprofit
organization dedicated to developing and applying energy
psychology methods.

ENERGY MEDICINE
RESEARCH ON FIBROMYALGIA
BLOOMFIELD, CT 11/29/07.
Fibromyalgia (pronounced fie-bro-my-AL-juh) is one of
the most common, chronic, widespread types of pain in
the U.S. It is estimated to affect between 6 and 8
million people in the United States. Its causes are
still not fully known. However, The Institute of Healing
Arts and Sciences, Inc., headquartered in Bloomfield, CT
has good news for sufferers. In a report to be released
December 7th, 2007, The Institute summarizes
data results from a study which indicates that long-term
fibromyalgia patients have been able to go for prolonged
periods pain free.
In announcing the results of the
study, conducted under a grant from the National
Institutes of Health, Institute Founder and Lead
Researcher Dorothy Martin-Neville, Ph.D. suggested that
she is very encouraged by the findings. “We have a
great deal of work left to do, but now that the NIH has
made Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) a
research priority, I think there is every reason to
believe pain management can be improved for millions of
sufferers. There is sufficient demonstration in this
study to do more than just give fibromyalgia sufferers
hope; we can have confidence that they can get relief”.
Some high-level information from
the study and the findings:
From Dr. Martin-Neville’s
Research:
The Psycho / Spiritual
Correlates of Physical Disorder:
An Expansion of Research in Mind / Body Medicine,
Research has shown that cognitive events and beliefs
have causal effects in the central nervous system and
have effects on physiology and immune function. This
research project explored this further
by assessing the possibility of specific
psycho/spiritual beliefs having a correlation to
specific physical disorders using both quantitative and
qualitative methods in research with fibromyalgia
patients. This project was funded by the National
Institutes of Health, in exploring the effectiveness of
energy medicine on fibromyalgia. The study demonstrated
that the treatment group consistently rated higher in
improvement in function and lifestyle. Participants
developed the ability to sustain the change with an
awareness of physical response to psycho/spiritual
stimuli and energy regulation.
